Nordic Walking Poles Welcome At More Running and Walking Events

Nordic Walking Poles are showing up at more and more walking and running events.

This past weekend I hosted the Glen Lake Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - sponsored by Running Fit, Coca-Cola, SKIWALKING.COM and The American Nordic Walking System. Nordic Walking Poles have always been welcome. There are no specific rules. Participants are welcome to Nordic Walk or Nordic Run with their poles.

As Nordic Walking continues to catch on here in the USA I hope that more events will encourage Nordic Walking and Nordic Running.

Salmon Fishing Followed by Nordic Walking

Keefer finally landed his 1st Great Lakes Salmon of the season - caught while fishing the Crystal River. Salmon eggs seemed to work best.
After Keefer filleted his salmon he joined us up on Alligator Hill for a family Ski Walk (Nordic Walk). Our trusty SWIX and EXEL Nordic Walking Poles work great in town (on pavement with the rubber tips/paws on) and for the mile-long climb up to the lookout on Alligator Hill behind town (rubber tips/paws off for trails, the beach, snow and ice). And just like during ski season we only use one-piece poles that are sized to each individuals height - NO twist-locking or collapsible poles.
Keefer is begging to go back to Gustavus, Alaska - more salmon, plus giant halibut!
Tonight the Salmon is going on the grill - BBQ King Salmon. The BBQ King Salmon from the Gustavus Inn may be impossible to duplicate, but we are going to give it a shot.
Kids are cool!
